Owning the relationship, not the audience

Platforms talk about your audience as if it were a thing you possess. It is not. The followers live on the platform, and the platform decides which of your posts ever reach them.

What you can own is the channel itself. A feed and a domain are mine. When someone subscribes, no one stands between us deciding whether the next post counts as worth showing.

I am not collecting an audience here. I am keeping a door open. Whoever wants to walk through it can, on their own terms, and leave whenever they like. That is the only kind of relationship worth having on the web.
